What is a YGAMS score? What is it based on and how did it get it's name ?

This project started out as a utility I wrote some time back as a personal tool named lookup.lsp. It took a search string and fead it to a handful of search engines, compiled the results and returned back a tiny page of links and hit counts that I could view on the tiny screen on my cell phone.

I used it to lookup the current "usage" of all kinds of names: proper, domain, and trade. It quickly became my prefetch search tool of choice.

The project took a turn in March 2007. While I was attempting to estimate the overall size of the known, or at least indexed, world of the Internet. I began to use this tool to calculate popularity values based on the apparent size of someone's or something's Internet Footprint as seen by the search engines.
As I settled in on which of the search engines I planned to use as my reference sources, I began to ponder a new name for this unusual tool.

The task at hand was to find a short name. One that had not been previously used. It needed to describe the process in some way or another, either technical or artistic, yet still qualify as a Trademark. Hopefully something that could be easily pronounced, that sounded a bit like a meaningful word, yet was not exactly, or at very least a pleasant sounding guttural sound. By this point in the project I had begun to refer to information packets themselves as Gamys pronounced Gamies, a friendly sounding word that sounded a bit like Grammys (which is unquestionably one of the most prestigious ratings of popularity in the movie industry).

A quick Lookup of "Gamys" proved disappointing. A visit to "www.gamys.com" came up with 3 sponsored sex links along with a Firefox blocked popup. It looked like there was little joy to be found using that name. I cared not to investigate further at that time.

I played around with the arrangement of letters and found that YGAMS.COM had not been registered!
A Lookup of YGAMS.COM came up with a "YGAMS" value of 0! At first I thought it had to be a mistake and went straight into debug mode to try and figure out what had gone wrong with my test code. It turns out that the lookup tool was working just fine. Other than a few mispellings of yGames, "YGAMS", which I was now pronouncing Y-GAMs, had an Internet footprint close enough to Zip, Zilch, Nada, Nothing. This will likely qualify for, and be granted, an uncontested registered trademark with the USPTO. YGAMS.COM seemed to not have had any known prior use of any kind! I do so enjoy identifying new words and giving them meaning - the chance to develop this little five letter wonder from scratch was way too cool to pass up. I am sure there is an old english teacher tossing in their grave some where, screaming you just can't just make up words even if they do sound right... But, I digress ... as usual.

On April 5th 2007 YGAMS.COM became a reality, over the next few days I cut the final version of the math module in stone and YGAMS.LSP began the simple task of analyzing the ever changing world of the Indexed Internet.

On April 10th 2007, I cleared out all my early test data and YGAMS.LSP went live as the first of the many log files it will be generateing over time began to grow, and will continue to grow until the unlikely event that the plug gets pulled for some unknown reason, or someday they grow to occupy all available storage....

On April 12th 2007, I made my first muttering on the subject in a blog. In addition, I put several links on the other websites I author, trolling for search engines to come by and communicate with. This opened the door to friends and family along with several beta testers, to play with the concept and watch the progress as I attempt to handle multiple screen types with a single entrypoint and yet remain scaleable.

On April 17th 2007, YGAMS.COM went from a gamys of 0 to a great big 1, it had been noticed. Early in May, I changed the page layout and a bit more text and the Gamys moved into the mid 80's. A poorly edited email leaked onto a mailing list about it and it's gamys hit 123 today ....

Today May 18, 2007, I put this timeline into the code and begin trolling for the search engines again.

Today June 12, 2007, A month has progressed in the life of the YGAMS engine. This month I learned a lot about SD and responded with a Game based on sets of YGAMS popularity scores. I have opened a Game Link.today for testing. The sample questions come from several early tests, I know the title and question information needs editing. But you early adopters will get the idea behind each question.

Feb 2008: the question generator is now working with well over 100 catagories. Half way to my goal new of 255. The first test of the login and scoreing system have begun and the the new logic is getting worked out. The e-mail verfication system and password recovery system are in now in place and look to be working. I have registered GAMYS.INFO and will begin muttering and tracking that name set. I see the .COM by the same name has cleaned up their act and now has a GAMYS value of 6, It is now parked at sedoparking.com and is now titled "For sports cards collectible cards try these sponsored results:". Please don't feed them hits by looking, take my word for it, there is nothing there to see.

It is now the end of march 2008 and based on the first game testing, the game has been simplified and several of the catagories have been removed when they proved to be too hard for mear mortals. They may be back in an expert level game in the future.

The rest will be history... till later Bob
